National framework, local delivery

We’re a national organisation with a local structure that’s focused on the needs of local children.

Our partner organisations – universities, colleges and local authorities – determine the structure and lead the delivery of the local Children’s University centre in their area.

This approach makes sure that the programme adapts to specific environments and meets the needs of local communities. It also helps children and families to forge a strong sense of attachment to their local centre.

Slide 1

Through the work of Children’s University Scotland and Aberdeenshire Children's University, young people across Aberdeenshire get the opportunity to engage in learning for fun and get the benefit of a very generous university experience. This encourages these youngsters and their families to think about the opportunity of a university career, a choice they would not otherwise consider. The feedback from all involved in this programme has been overwhelmingly positive. It has been an exciting journey so far!

Working with a Local Centre

Local authorities can contribute in many ways to the management, running and impact of a local centre. That could mean helping to engage schools, providing financial support, helping to recruit local learning activity providers or by building connections with local groups and initiatives.

Setting up a new Local Centre

We want to develop a presence in 80% of Scotland’s local authority areas by 2020. Each of our centres promotes learning opportunities that help build confidence and create new possibilities and expectations for young learners, helping to enhance the life chances for our children.

We’re always happy to have informal discussions with any organisation that might be interested in being part of a new centre.

It all starts with a conversation

We’re ready to help you explore the options.
